Hello hello hello! Here we go again, my top 10 songs for August 2021!
For those of you that are new here, WELCOME, this is #SnaxPack, a list of my monthly highlights/recommendations!
(It's not a requirement for any of the songs to have been released on the following month. The only requirement is for me to enjoy listening to it enough to recommend it!)

1. Billie Eilish - Happier than ever
Origin: U.S.A.
Genre: Alternative/Indie
"Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell (born December 18, 2001) is an American singer and songwriter. She first gained public attention in 2015 with her debut single "Ocean Eyes", which was subsequently released by Darkroom, a subsidiary of Interscope Records. The song was written and produced by her brother, Finneas O'Connell, with whom she frequently collaborates on music and in live shows. Her debut extended play, Don't Smile at Me (2017), was commercially successful and charted within the top 15 in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. Eilish has received several accolades, including seven Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, one Guinness World Record, three MTV Video Music Awards, and two Brit Awards. She is the youngest artist in Grammy history and second overall to win all four general field categories—Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year—in the same year. She was named to Time magazine's inaugural Time 100 Next list (2019). According to the RIAA and Billboard, Eilish is the 26th-highest-certified digital singles artist and one of the most successful artists of the 2010s. " Wikipedia I fell in love with the second half of this song immediately! It reminded me a lot of Avril Lavigne and my teenage years!

2. Jungle - Keep moving
Origin: England Genre: neo soul/funk/dance/electronic
" Funk-indebted acts characterized by lazing rhythms, falsetto vocals, and commercial aspirations were scarce in 2014, when Jungle capitalized upon their breakthrough single "Busy Earnin'" with a self-titled album that hit the U.K. Top Ten. By the time the band had been nominated for a Mercury Prize and released the first singles from their follow-up full-length, the novelty tag had worn off and they had become fixtures of the revered XL Recordings label. The group continued expanding their sound with 2018's For Ever, also a Top Ten success, and 2021's Loving in Stereo." allmusic

3. Lorde - Mood Ring
Origin: New Zealand Genre: Alternative/Indie/Pop
"Lorde’s aura of maturity has pervaded her music ever since she released her full-length debut, 2013’s Pure Heroine, at age 17. Born Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, the New Zealand singer reports from the front lines of youth culture; her runaway hit single “Royals,” a cynical look at commercialism, became the first song by a female solo artist to top Billboard’s alternative charts in 17 years. Lorde teamed with producer Jack Antonoff for her sophomore album, Melodrama, in 2017; the LP told the story of a single party, and advanced her indie-pop sound into synesthetic revelry. By integrating rhythmic irregularities, Alicia Keys–laced R&B undercurrents, and other oddities that set her apart from her pop star peers, Lorde elevates her music into an art house moment." pitchfork

4. Pat Benatar - Heartbreaker
Origin: U.S.A.
Genre: Rock
"Pat Benatar's polished mainstream pop/rock made her one of the more popular female vocalists of the early '80s. Although she came on like an arena rocker with her power chords, tough sexuality, and powerful vocals, her music was straight pop/rock underneath all the bluster. Born Patricia Andrzejewski on January 10, 1953, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, the singer was raised in the nearby town of Lindenhurst on Long Island, New York. Benatar began singing regularly in the New York City area in the '70s, where she was discovered at the Catch a Rising Star club and signed by Chrysalis Records. A stellar band led by guitarist Neil Geraldo (who the singer would later marry), provided the perfect accompaniment that was able to effortlessly alternate between rockers and ballads. Benatar quickly established herself as one of rock's top vocalists, scoring a hit right off the bat with her debut album, 1979's In the Heat of the Night, which spawned such radio favorites as "Heartbreaker" and "I Need a Lover" (the latter of which was written by a then unknown John Mellencamp)." allmusic

5. Barry Manilow - Weekend in New England
Origin: U.S.A. Genre: Pop
"Barry Manilow is one of the most popular singer-songwriters of all time. He grew up in the now trendy area of Williamsburg and went on to study at the New York College of Music and later studied Musical Theatre at the Juilliard performing arts school.
His career kicked off in the early 60s when a CBS director asked him to arrange some songs for a musical adaptation of The Drunkard, which went on to have an eight year run in the 13th Street Theatre. In 1974 he achieved success with his break out hit Mandy and his musical career continued from then until the present day - he has released 32 studio albums, 4 live albums, 15 compilation albums, and 57 singles and has sold over 80 million records worldwide" biography

6. Duval Timothy - Fall Again ft. Lil Silva, Melanie Faye
Origin: England
Genre: Pop/Contemporary Jazz
"Duval is a multi-disciplinary artist from South London. He currently works and lives between London, UK and Freetown, Sierra Leone. In 2017 Duval created 'Carrying Colour', a clothing & lifestyle brand and record label through which he releases his own music & merch. Carrying Colour studios in Freetown provides a recording space for Duval, collaborators and local artists in Sierra Leone. His solo piano pieces are somewhere on the boundaries between contemporary minimalism and jazz. Precise, geometrical constructions featuring heart-rending chord changes and simple melodies. Timothy weaves in recordings of friends and relatives from Sierra Leone, making the entire collection sound like an immersive, cross-cultural dialogue." deccapublishing

7. Kadhja Bonet - Joy
Origin: U.S.A. Genre: R&B/Soul
"With her beguiling, airy voice and robust blend of cosmic jazz, R&B, folk, and classical, singer/songwriter Kadhja Bonet quietly made waves in the Los Angeles underground prior to releasing the mini-album The Visitor (2016) and full-length Childqueen (2018). A multi-instrumentalist with a background in classical violin dating back to childhood, Bonet seriously pursued music as an adult following an unfulfilling period in film school. She began collaborating with L.A. producer Itai Shapira, resulting in her soulful debut single "Tears for Lamont" in 2014. Later that year Bonet participated in the Red Bull Music Academy program in Tokyo, working with German producer RJ and Australian producer Max Maxwell on the electronic-laced single "Late Night Munchies." Throughout early 2015, she continued to release singles via her Bandcamp page, each one expanding her range and developing her elegant, occasionally cinematic sound. In September of that year, Bonet delivered her first collection of music, The Visitor, a mini-album released through Fresh Selects and Fat Possum. Less than two years later, she followed it up with the full-length Childqueen, an even more transportive and mystical set of songs for which she provided most of the instrumentation. " allmusic

8. Mysie - In my mind
Origin: England, Uganda
Genre: Pop
"It’s deeply, deeply in the blood,” Mysie says of the music she makes. Raised in South East London but with roots that stretch back generations to Uganda, Mysie can retroactively plot the path to where she is now: making intimate indie soul that takes her listeners along with her on the journey through raw and sensitive emotional spaces. In it, you’ll find a character, one unafraid to be both headstrong and sensitive; carefree and vulnerable. In 2020, using “Rocking Chair” as an example of her talent, the Ivor Novello Awards chose Mysie as their first Rising Star Award recipient – which is where her relationship with Fraser T Smith began as part of the award's mentoring scheme for nominees." spotify

9. Porij - Nobody Scared
Origin: England
Genre: Pop/Dance/Electronic
"Squeaky-new foursome Porij (as in porridge) became a proper band quicker than they’d planned. Eggy (vocals and keys), Tommy (vocals and guitar), Jammo (bass) and Tom (drums) were sharing university halls and studying popular music together at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and had tentatively started to make beats. But when a friend’s band pulled out of a live show, they were asked to step in with only a week to write a setlist. Just over a year later, and they look like four Christine and the Queenses in their matching check suits – the kind of band you can imagine performing at the prom in Sex Education. And whatever came out of those hurried sessions has bloomed into an endearing blend of house, garage, new wave and lo-fi pop." The Guardian
