5. Ivan Ave - On the Very Low
Origin: Norway
Genre: Rap, jazz-fusion, electronic
"A Norwegian MC, rapping in English, making his mark on the global underground hip hop scene is pretty rare. Eivind Øygarden aka Ivan Ave is that rare exception. Growing up in Telemark in Norway, an area surrounded by rugged, majestic mountains, Ivan found his musical influences in the R'n'B records of his older sisters; The Fugees, Janet Jackson and Raphael Saadiq. Since then, he has carved out his own path with jazz-fusion heavy, nineties-inspired rap, creating his own lyrical universe. In Oslo, Ivan met his earliest collaborator Fredfades. They created Mutual Intentions, a label and a collective of like-minded friends. It became a platform that hadn’t existed in Oslo previously, and opened the doors to work with international producers, such as Mndsgn, Dâm-Funk, Kiefer and Kaytranada."

His debut studio album was released in January 2016 by the American record label Atlantic Records. Even though it received negative reviews from critics it peaked at number 6 on the Billboard 200 published by the ‘Billboard’ magazine. A deluxe edition was also released in November which contained three additional songs. Puth wrote, co-produced as well as sang the hook on Wiz Khalifa’s hip-hop anthem ‘See You Again,’ included in the soundtrack of the motion picture ‘Furious 7.’ It became a huge hit, reaching the No. 1 spot in nearly 90 countries worldwide. It also reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, Shazam, iTunes and Spotify, undoubtedly becoming one of the most important works of his career. According to Puth, his family background is not wealthy and during his childhood his family had to struggle to make both ends meet. He has expressed gratitude to his parents who worked hard to help him pursue his musical goals. 10. David Walters, Folamour - Sam Cook Di (Folamour Remix)
Origin: France
Genre: Dance/ Electronic
"David Walters grew up in Paris in the seventies and has been living in Marseille for a few years – a city which has become a home base for this relentless traveler. His passion for other cultures was obvious when he co-hosted the television show ‘Les Nouveaux Explorateurs’, broadcast in France for several years, during which he travelled around the world. This on-screen experience was actually a sort of parenthesis in his career. First and foremost, David Walters is known for his music, which perfectly reflects his interest in multiculturalism. Since his first album, ‘Awa’ (2005), the singer-songwriter has shown the breadth of his influences: Creole music, Brazilian music, soul, jazz, funk, pop, Afrobeat… Listening to one of his albums sees your mind move from one place to another (between Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean islands where his parents come from), even within the same single song: David Walters takes you by the hand and drags you gently across different countries, different continents."
"French DJ/producer Bruno Boumendil (aka Folamour) takes the bright aesthetics of disco and adds a significant amount of house groove, making for laid-back but propulsive club tracks.
Originally hailing from Lyon, Boumendil quickly found his feet as an upcoming talent, releasing his first mixtape, 2015's Chapeau Rouge, on Fauxpas Music. From there he went from strength to strength, establishing himself outside of France for his skills as a DJ. He went on to establish his own label, Moonrise Hill Material, alongside Ethyene, Kaffe Crème, and Okwa; he released his debut album, 2017's Umami, through the label. Around the same time, he moved over to London, where he established another label, FHUO (For Heaven Use Only) Records, through which he released his sophomore album, 2019's Ordinary Drugs."
